Excitement is mounting across the Leribe District as preparations for the highly anticipated 2025 Leribe High Schools Agric Fair nears completion.
Scheduled for Friday, May 2nd, the event will take place at the Hlotse Agric College grounds, kicking off at 08:00hrs.
This annual event has grown into a cornerstone of agricultural education, bringing together students from across the district to demonstrate their practical skills, compete in quizzes, and celebrate achievements in agriculture.
“Initially, learners were exposed to various components of agriculture, including crop production, animal husbandry, agricultural machinery, and other related aspects,” said Pokane Mosotho, Chairperson of the Lesotho Agric Teachers Association (LATA).
“This was aimed at fostering a deeper interest in agricultural education and equipping students with practical knowledge through competitions like the Agriculture Quiz.”
With 45 to 49 schools expected to participate, the fair promises more than just healthy competition—it offers a dynamic learning platform. Students are encouraged to explore both plant and animal food production, inspired by success stories from established farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.
“The program empowers learners to become self-sufficient and view agriculture as a viable career path. It also enhances awareness of agriculture as a means of livelihood, particularly through commercial farming,” Mosotho added.
Organisers highlight the fair’s far-reaching impact. Many students apply the knowledge gained at the fair within their communities, contributing to local food security and agricultural development. Additionally, schools have reported improved academic performance in agriculture-related subjects following student participation in the fair.
“The fair increases appreciation for agricultural education, especially as learners witness its integration and relevance across diverse schools,” said Mosotho.
Beyond the quiz and awards, the day will feature live exhibitions, interactive displays, and a vibrant platform for exchanging ideas on modern farming techniques—making it not just an academic affair but a celebration of innovation and sustainability in agriculture.
