India Extends a Hand of Friendship to Lesotho with Food Aid Donation
Lesotho has received a substantial donation from India, consisting of 1,000 metric tonnes of rice and 1,000 metric tonnes of sorghum, to bolster its efforts against food insecurity.

In a powerful show of solidarity and international friendship, the Government of India has stepped forward to support Lesotho’s efforts in tackling food insecurity with a generous donation of 1,000 metric tonnes of rice and 1,000 metric tonnes of sorghum.

Through the donation, India has reaffirmed its longstanding partnership with the Mountain Kingdom.

The official handover ceremony, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations at the Food Management Unit (FMU) in Maseru, was filled with messages of unity, gratitude, and shared purpose.

The event featured a tour of the food consignment, a formal signing of the donation agreement, and a symbolic distribution of food aid to selected beneficiaries.

His Excellency Prabhat Kumar, High Commissioner of India to Lesotho, underscored the deeper meaning behind the donation.

“This donation is more than just food. It is a symbol of hope and a reminder that we are not alone in our struggle. It reflects the unwavering friendship between India and Lesotho,” he said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of Lesotho, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Lejone Mpotjoana, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people and government of India.

He emphasised how critical this intervention is for vulnerable Basotho communities facing food insecurity.

“India continues to play a vital role in the lives of our people. This act of kindness not only alleviates immediate food needs but also strengthens the ties between our nations. May it inspire future generations to nurture and grow this relationship,” the minister said.

He further reaffirmed Lesotho’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with India in key areas of development, including agriculture, trade, and education.
